Data Type Data (for this trail)
Name Linville Gorge Trail aka Linville River Trail
Exists ? yes aka West Bank Tr
Status PUblished
Route From the base of Pine gap at the Linville River, the LGT runs along the west bank all the way to 1320. Historically, it crossed the River and continued on the east bank and crossed back again. Cliffs futher south forced the hiker into the water and early users found it easier to cross the river than to route over the cliffs. Private ownership and Floods in 2004 have ruled out this crossing. Currently, the LGT deadends at the cliffs and there is no direct exit. The nearest published trail allowing an exit is Pinchin a mile back. Hikers have attempted to find a route over the cliffs and avoid the private land. The PROPOSED Route is called Leadmine.
